Since 2019 I have started to see an increase in 3D or Digital Fashion. An increase that has escalated hugely during the pandemic due to the fact that we were confined to our homes, with little access to physical goods that were not essential (aka clothes, for example).
Computerized or Digital Fashion is the visual portrayal of clothes constructed using computer tech and 3D programming and is the interplay between advanced digital innovation of ICT and couture.
I realized that playing Pokémon GO (yes, I do play Pokémon in my 30s), and receiving a newsletter from the Niantic Team (developers of the game), informing about an upcoming collaboration with the brand Longchamp to dress your avatar. I found it quite a move from Longchamp, both for staying in the wave of the 80s and 90s generations playing that game as a reminder of their youth; and also to attract new generations of potential customers through the display of some garments in the game.
A while after that, I found out about TRIBUTE BRAND, where I bought my first Digital garment. Well, actually it was a design of a jacket layered in a super realistic way (as you can see) over a previously made picture. The brand specializes in contactless digital fashion, which is an awesome start for being more sustainable and embracing the digital future.
At the beginning of 2021, I also found out awesome news from another great game that I used to play a lot when I was a kid, The Sims. And they were supposed to release a Prada Expansion in 2021. I saw this post that you can see published in the @diet_prada account.
Just some months ago, fashion started to jump also to what I call Digital Fashion 3.0. Fashion that can be worn through Augmented Reality. For that, there are several fashion brands that have started to sell their NFT garments, aka Non-Fungible Tokens.
A non-fungible token (NFT) is a unit of information put away on a computerized record, called a blockchain, that guarantees a digital asset as one of a kind and in this way not tradable. NFTs can be utilized to address things, for example, photographs, recordings, sound, and different kinds of digital files, and among them, clothes. While duplicates of these advanced things are accessible for anybody to acquire, NFTs are followed on blockchains to furnish the proprietor with proof of possession that is separate from copyright.
The NFT market esteems significantly increased in 2020, coming to more than $250 million. During the main quarter of 2021, NFT deals surpassed $2 billion.
Not only that, Digital Fashion or Digital Designing, is able to increase the level of commitment with the sustainability of designers, being able to reduce to the maximum the use of materials for testing the construction of garments. Softwares like CLO3D, previously known as Marvellous Designer, have been helping designers for years in their pursuit of reducing the squandering of materials.
